Fotolec Technologies Ltd had very successfully developed the technology and process to manufacture plastic coated fluorescent lamps for the food industry and other applications. Demand continued to grow and it became clear that a strategic plan was required to determine the appropriate actions and investment required to sustain growth. Having MAS-East already involved in establishing Lean principles in the manufacturing areas Fotolec asked them for support in developing a Plan for Strategic Growth which considered the needs of key stakeholders, the capability of business processes, and the development of the people and the organisation.

Fotolec Technologies Ltd

Key Achievements

  • A 7 year strategy for growth
  • A 12 months detailed marketing plan
  • Key targets identified: 18% annual Growth in Turnover; 24% annual growth in profitability

The MAS-East process is designed specifically to meet those requirements. Working with the senior team to identify the changes required to deliver the growth ambitions and to develop an implementation plan for the most immediate and highest priority actions required to ensure delivery of the plan. Using a One Page Strategy Planning process which has been adapted for use with small to medium manufacturing companies. The Main Processes covered were:

  • Strategic Planning, Communication and Continuous Improvement
  • Marketing & Sales Winning Business
  • People Recruitment, Training and Development
  • R&D, Innovation and Design – Developing the Product
  • Purchasing,Production, Logistics and Distribution – Order Fulfillment.

The One Page Strategy followed a structured approach covering key elements to help with the following:

  • The translatation of the vision into a set of strategic goals.
  • A gap analysis between current state financial, market position and capability to help refine the goals and to set an initial realistic timescale.
  • A review of stakeholder needs to ensure the goals met all requirements.
  • A structured assessment of business processes, organisation and people to identify actions required to support the goals.
  • An implementation plan which became a key management review document.
  • Involvement of all employees through communication of the “one page strategy”

“ MAS – East was excellent in helping us formulate a 7 year corporate strategy. The process galvanised the team and highlighted well both our strengths and weaknesses, resulting in a one page strategy which conveyed quickly to everyone a roadmap forward. I would recommend the MAS – East strategic process to any business serious about growth”.
