Luxury yacht builders sail through improvements
EC Landamore & Co. Ltd has been building traditional boats and luxury yachts for over 80 years. Their products still retain the traditional hand crafted qualities but for the manufacturing environment, it was time to introduce new processes.

At Landamores, they know they make yachts to be proud of. But with demand for their products increasing, there was a need to create more efficient and effective production processes.
Landamores contacted MAS-East anticipating that
we could support their dedicated and skilled team
to understand and implement lean tools and
techniques in a controlled, well planned and sustainable way, to drive the improvements they wanted to achieve.
The MAS-East Specialist worked with the team at
Landamores over a period of 6 months to implement improvements focusing on the following elements:
• Workplace organisation and visual management
• Material flow through production
• Yacht build scheduling and planning
After training the team in understanding processes
and their problems, they set about reorganising the factory. Using a 5S and workplace organisation approach, they were able to create extra space which allowed a new workshop layout to be designed and implemented.
The improved layout and process sequence design
mean materials can move through the factory more easily, allowing the number of man hours per build and the overall lead-time to be reduced.
The improved design and the implementation of
a new scheduling and planning system mean that
there is now a consistent sequencing of tasks,
accurate scheduling of suppliers and build sequence
standardisation – all meaning that improvements are more sustainable.
