Customers can count on Vacuumatic
Vacuumatic is the world leader in paper counting technology, providing solutions for the security and commercial print sectors, converters and paper mills. Vacuumatic asked MAS-East to help with the transition to its new Super 30 and Vicount 3 counting machines, using Lean Manufacturing principles to allow them to only produce to order – at the pull of the customer!
Key Achievements
Increased available capacity by 20%
Reduced work in progress by 40%
Improved on-time delivery in full to 95%
MAS East and Vacuumatic have already worked jointly on previous projects introducing Lean principles and pull systems, however with a significant transition to a new product range, Vacuumatic were keen to utilise MAS-East expertise once again.
The objective was to ensure that products were able to be produced only to order, whilst reducing manufacturing lead time and improving on-time delivery in full but without adding to inventory. Simple yet effective pull systems were utilised to control material flow, incorporating line side stocks as well as creating a clean production environment that allowed for clear visible controls and key measures to be effectively used.
Vacuumatic had already seen the benefits of Lean; generating increased capacity that allowed for sales growth on key lines
but without added resource or inventory costs.
This is in addition to significant improvements in on-time in full delivery (OTIF), creating increased customer satisfaction and a less frenetic working environment. Combining these new improvements and those that have already been realised elsewhere in the business will allow Vacuumatic to continue to improve on time in full delivery on its Super 30 and Vicount 3 line, only producing at the pull of the customer whilst giving it greater visibility through its own supply chain.
